50.
Pulp / "The Trees" / We Love Life / 2001
A bit of a comedown from their dizzy Brit-Pop albums, Pulp's sole album of the 2000's produced one of their finest moments. An autumnal, string led beauty of a song and Jarvis Cocker's ever so clever wordplay.

49.
Radiohead / "Myxomatosis" / Hail to the Thief / 2003
Always a band of riches, this queasy twitchy piece of fuzz is perhaps one of the most unsettling things they've put on record.

48.
Lola Ray / "Quiet Voices (Duck Vs. Swan)" / Liars / 2006
A maturation on the level of Brand New. From pop punk also rans to an interesting fusion of Cure-esque melodrama and stadium-sized pop. Something unique.

47.
Metric / "Poster of a Girl" / Live It Out / 2005
A swirling disco number with some of Emily Haines' best lyrics.

46.
Maximo Park / "Postcard of a Painting" / A Certain Trigger / 2005
The perfect fusion of their Buzzcocks versus the Jam blasts of energy and Paul Smith's painstakingly raw  vision of romantic insecurities.

45.
KT Tunstall / "Funnyman" / Drastic Fantastic / 2007
It's all very surprising, considering it's her. The lyrics and overall feel of the song are folky rather than countryish, the sound is modern rock rather than modern pop.

44.
Nicole Atkins / "Love Surreal" / Neptune City / 2007
Nicole Atkins shows her vocal chops and songwriting ability while Rick Rubin proves his versatility in production. An amazing hook leads into a piece of classicist pop.

43.
Radio 4 / "Save Your City" / Gotham! / 2002
A highlight of the disco-punk movement. Taut, addictive, and perfectly constructed.
Once again, just trust me on this.

42.
Wolf Parade / "Shine a Light" / Apologies to the Queen Mary / 2005
Scruffy Canadian indie-pop. It's really hard to define Wolf Parade in any other way.

41/
The Noisettes / "The Count of Monte Cristo" / What's the Time, Mr. Wolf? / 2007
A lithe acoustic guitar leads a complex song structure. With Shingai Shoniwa's showstopping vocals, the song builds up into a swirling fury.
